[Revisited] Arkansas Highway 365: Maumelle to Conway

Traveling north along Arkansas Highway 365 from Maumelle to Conway offers a laid-back alternative to the faster-paced Interstate 40 nearby, and a chance to enjoy a bit of local flavor along the way. Starting just outside the Maumelle city limits at the intersection with AR-100, this 16-mile stretch takes us through the river valley lowlands, quiet communities, and the ever-expanding urban edges of Conway. The road here serves not just as a connector between two cities, but as a path through the evolving suburban corridor of central Arkansas.

The journey begins heading west, but AR-365 quickly bends northwest before it curves northeast, tracing the general path of the Arkansas River—though mostly out of sight. Before long, we reach the small town of Mayflower, a community that gained national attention during the 2014 tornado but has since rebuilt and grown. In Mayflower, we cross an interchange with AR-89, which was recently reconstructed to improve traffic flow between local routes and the nearby interstate. This area has seen an uptick in development in recent years, including new neighborhoods and small businesses that dot the highway just before leaving town.

Continuing north, the route passes through the unincorporated area of Preston, a quiet stretch that acts as a bit of a transition zone between Mayflower and Conway. We then approach the Interstate 40 interchange, offering a chance to either hop back on the fast lane or continue into Conway the scenic way. As we enter Conway, AR-365 becomes Harkrider Street—an important corridor that runs through the heart of the city. Along Harkrider, you’ll find a mix of residential neighborhoods, light industry, and institutional landmarks such as Hendrix College. The drive ends at the intersection with AR-60, where Highway 365 gives way to U.S. 65 Business.

Although this drive is only 16 miles, it offers a little bit of everything—rural charm, small-town Americana, and growing urban development. Whether you’re avoiding interstate traffic or just enjoying a more relaxed route, Arkansas Highway 365 delivers a pleasant journey through central Arkansas.
