If you’re ready to experience one of the busiest urban highways in Texas, buckle up and join us as we head south on US-75 from the legendary “High Five” interchange at I-635 all the way to downtown Dallas, where the highway meets I-30. This 11-mile stretch packs in classic big-city vibes, iconic Dallas landmarks, and plenty of reasons to roll down the window and take in the energy of North Texas.
We kick things off at the Texas High Five—a true marvel of highway engineering where US-75 and I-635 tangle together in a five-level stack interchange. If you’ve never seen it before, it’s worth a glance upward as you merge, just to appreciate the towering ramps looping overhead. Heading southbound, US-75 (often called North Central Expressway here) runs straight into the heart of Dallas, slicing through the vibrant neighborhoods of North Dallas, Lake Highlands, and Lower Greenville.
Almost immediately after leaving the High Five, the highway passes over Royal Lane—a prime access point for shopping, restaurants, and offices that cluster along this busy corridor. The NorthPark Center mall (one of Dallas’s premier shopping destinations) is just to the west at Northwest Highway (Loop 12), and you’ll spot the big glass-and-steel buildings of the city’s northern business district lining both sides of the road. It’s a great section to spot Dallas’s rapid growth in action, with construction cranes and new high-rises constantly popping up.
A few miles in, US-75 cruises alongside the SMU/Mockingbird Station area, home to Southern Methodist University and a major transit hub packed with trendy shops and eateries. If you’re in the mood for a detour, the George W. Bush Presidential Library and the lush grounds of SMU are just a couple of blocks west of the highway.
As you continue south, neighborhoods like Knox/Henderson and Uptown come into view—these are some of Dallas’s hottest spots for nightlife, dining, and walkable city life. The highway starts to sink below street level in this stretch, flanked by urban parks and public art installations. If you’re looking for the classic Dallas skyline photo, keep your eyes open as you approach downtown; the view from US-75 as it curves toward I-30 is iconic, especially at sunset.
This final stretch sees the Expressway rising back up as you approach the Mixmaster interchange, where US-75 meets I-30 just on the eastern edge of downtown Dallas. From here, you can split off east or west on I-30, continue into Deep Ellum for music and nightlife, or loop into downtown for museums, sports, and everything Big D has to offer.
Whether you’re commuting, sightseeing, or just passing through, this 11-mile journey along US-75 is a fast-paced, distinctly Dallas ride with plenty to see both on and just off the highway. Don’t miss the local flavor—pop off at any of the exits and you’re never far from great food, unique shopping, or a bit of Texas history.
