Arkansas Highway 124: Moreland to Caglesville

Arkansas Highway 124: Moreland to Caglesville | Drive America

Cruising along the rolling backroads of Pope County, we pick up Arkansas Highway 124 heading east from the quiet crossroads community of Moreland. This short but pleasant stretch offers a glimpse of classic rural Arkansas: pastures dotted with grazing cattle, scattered farmhouses, and pockets of timber lining the roadway. It’s a quick link between two small towns, but it’s a useful shortcut if you’re weaving your way through this part of the Arkansas River Valley.

Starting at the intersection with Highway 164 in Moreland, we ease onto AR-124 and immediately settle into a gentle northeast track. The route isn’t particularly twisty, but it gently meanders, offering quick roadside views of hayfields and old barns tucked behind tree lines. It’s the kind of drive where you might pass a neighbor out on a tractor or catch sight of deer grazing at the edge of a field in the early morning or just before dusk.

Approaching Caglesville, the road dips slightly and curves past a scattering of homes that mark this small rural community. Though it may look like little more than an intersection on the map, Caglesville serves as a handy junction for local travelers connecting to other nearby routes. Before long, we reach the eastern end of this segment at the junction with Arkansas Highway 105, just beyond the heart of Caglesville. From here, drivers can continue north on AR-105 toward Hector or head back south toward Atkins and the interstate.
