Arkansas Highway 103: Oark to Clarksville (Harmony)

Arkansas Highway 103 - Oark to Clarksville (Harmony) | Drive America

Join us as we drive 13 scenic miles south along Arkansas Highway 103, beginning deep in the rugged beauty of the Ozark Mountains and ending just northwest of Clarksville in the small community of Harmony.

Our journey kicks off at the eastern end of Arkansas Highway 215 in the charming mountain hamlet of Oark—a spot well-loved by motorcyclists, hikers, and anyone looking to unplug for a bit. From here, we head west for a short mile through the quiet backwoods before meeting the northern start of Highway 103. This is where the real adventure begins: we turn south and start our descent from the forested highlands that define this part of Johnson County.

As we wind our way down, the road treats us to classic Ozark switchbacks—tight curves, sweeping views through the trees, and sudden glimpses of the valleys below. Around the intersection with County Road 4160, the terrain grows more demanding. Here, the highway zigzags down a series of sharp bends and steep grades, making it a favorite stretch for drivers who appreciate a little thrill behind the wheel. It’s a good idea to watch your speed and keep an eye out for wildlife darting across the road.

Once the hairpins ease up, the route flattens into a more relaxed drive. We roll southward, transitioning from the dense forest canopy into more open countryside as the Ozarks fade behind us. In this final stretch, the landscape shifts to gentle farmland and scattered homesteads—a peaceful contrast to the rugged start of our drive. Before long, we arrive in the unincorporated community of Harmony, where neat fields and quiet roads mark the edge of Clarksville’s rural outskirts. Just northwest of Harmony, we meet Arkansas Highway 164 at a simple country intersection, turning westbound to wrap up this short but memorable mountain-to-prairie ride.

Whether you’re after a quiet cruise, a test of your driving skills, or just a new piece of Arkansas to explore, Highway 103 between Oark and Harmony delivers a bit of everything the Natural State is famous for: hills, forests, curves, and classic rural charm.
