Take a drive with us along a key connector in central Arkansas as we follow Arkansas Highway 100 westbound from North Little Rock into the planned community of Maumelle. This five-mile stretch, better known to locals as Maumelle Boulevard, serves as a vital corridor for commuters, residents, and businesses situated just northwest of Little Rock proper. While not particularly long, this drive showcases the blend of suburban growth and accessibility that defines the region.
We begin our journey at the interchange with Interstate 430, just north of the Arkansas River in the northwest corner of North Little Rock. From here, Highway 100 heads west as Maumelle Boulevard, immediately entering a commercial corridor dotted with shopping centers, restaurants, gas stations, and service businesses. It’s a busy stretch, especially during rush hour, as this section also serves as a feeder route for drivers heading to or from Maumelle and Interstate 40. Shortly after the onramp, we pass Crystal Hill Road, the historical route into the Maumelle area.
Continuing west, we reach the intersection with Vestal Drive, a quieter access point that primarily serves the adjacent subdivisions. The landscape here begins to transition from fully commercial into a more mixed-use environment. Not far past this point, we arrive at Counts Massie Road, which has seen increased importance since the construction of a new Interstate 40 interchange just north of here. This connection has significantly improved access to and from Maumelle, providing a quicker route to I-40 eastbound and helping reduce congestion on Maumelle Boulevard itself.
As we near the edge of North Little Rock, we pass a second intersection with Crystal Hill Road—yes, it loops back around—just before entering the city limits of Maumelle. The transition is subtle, but you’ll notice a change in roadway aesthetics and an uptick in residential development. Once in Maumelle proper, the road becomes more scenic, with maintained medians, landscaping, and the occasional glimpse of wooded areas and green space.
We soon cross Country Club Road, a key entrance to several Maumelle subdivisions, as well as the Maumelle Country Club—a private 18-hole course known for its rolling fairways and tight layout. Continuing west, we pass Odom Boulevard, which loops south and connects to Lake Willastein and the Maumelle park trail system, popular with cyclists and joggers. Our drive concludes at the signalized intersection with Carnahan Drive, one of the main east-west connectors in Maumelle. From here, Maumelle Boulevard continues west for another mile or so before turning into Arkansas Highway 365—but that’s a drive for another day. This stretch of AR-100 may not be scenic in the traditional sense, but it offers a good look at the evolution of suburban development in Central Arkansas, serving as the spine of a well-planned community with easy access to the broader Little Rock metro area.
