U.S. Route 191

U.S. Route 191 (US 191) is a north-south highway that spans the western United States, running from the Mexican border in southern Arizona to the Canadian border in northern Montana. It covers a wide range of terrains and landscapes, making it one of the most scenic and diverse highways in the U.S. Numbered Highway System. US 191 serves as a crucial connector through several national parks, Native American reservations, and rural communities.

In Arizona, US 191 begins in the town of Douglas and runs north through mining towns and the rugged White Mountains. As it continues through eastern Utah, it provides access to major national parks including Arches, Canyonlands, and the southern entrance to Yellowstone via the spur to West Yellowstone, Montana. This highway is particularly notable for its dramatic desert scenery and red rock formations in the Four Corners region.

In Montana, US 191 transitions into alpine landscapes and wide-open plains as it heads north toward the Canadian border. Along its route, the highway intersects with other major routes like US 60, US 70, US 160, and Interstate 90. Its alignment has evolved over the decades, and today it stands as one of the few U.S. Routes that connects both international borders.
